What is Free To Air Satellite TV?

Free-To-Air (FTA) satellite is a term that describes satellite signals which are unencrypted and anyone can legally receive - without a subscription.

The most common sources in North America for free-to-air satellite television are:
Public educational broadcasters including PBS on AMC3 (87°W), Ethnic-language broadcasters, for instance Globecast World TV on Intelsat America 5 (97°W) or individual local stations of US terrestrial TV networks, for example Equity Broadcasting stations on Galaxy 10R (123°W).

FTA signals are carried by these satellites: AMC 1, AMC 3, AMC 4, AMC 5, AMC 6, Echostar 8, Galaxy 10R, Galaxy13/Horizons 1, Galaxy 3C ,Intelsat Americas 5, Intelsat Americas 6, Intelsat Americas 7, Intelsat Americas 8, SatMex 5, SBS 6.

Some of the channels available in Enlish language include: ABC News Now, Al Jazeera English, CCTV 9, Daystar, Create TV, Emmanuel TV, Fashion TV America, Global Christian Network, GnF Movie Channel, Hope Channel, JCTV, MHz Worldview, New York Network, Patient Channel, PBS DTV, Research Channel, Tip TV, University of Washington TV, Utah Education, Word Network, and many others.

What is required to receive FTA:

- Receiver
- LNBF (Low-Noise Block Converter Feedhorn)
- Dish (a larger dish can help pick up more signals)
