Satellite television operator EchoStar Communications Corp., which operates the Dishnetwork, said that its third-quarter profit tumbled 33% compared with the year-earlier period. Net income fell to $140 million, or 31 cents a share, from $209 million, or 46 cents, a year earlier. Quarterly revenue rose 16% to $2.47 billion.
The company said it added 295,000 subscribers, ending the quarter with about 12.8 million subscribers.

EchoStar Communications Corp. and DirecTV Group Inc. are expected to report healthy but slowing subscriber growth for the 3rd quarter.
DirecTV added 205,000 net new subscribers in the third quarter, which is 24 percent fewer than it added in the year-ago period. EchoStar is forecast to have added 214,000 net new subscribers, down 17 percent.
